Al “Scarface” Capone is the first name to come to mind when Americans think of gangsters and criminals. He was an American crime boss who amassed a large amount of fortune and fame during his time as a criminal. Eventually, after seven years as a crime boss, Capone was arrested and imprisoned for tax evasion. Remember kids, the government does NOT mess around when it comes to getting their money.
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are sometimes called the Romeo and Juliette of crime. Bonnie was actually married to another criminal when she met Clyde and started her life of crime.
Clyde, on the other hand, was unmarried but had already been in trouble with the law. Clyde turned to crime to escape the poverty of his childhood. Together Bonnie and Clyde did many unspeakable things and lived a life on the run that ended quite tragically.
John Dillinger, as with many bank robbers, Dillinger was compared to Robin Hood because people often see those who have more as villains and tend to relate more with people who struggle. Dillinger had the looks and personality to capture a nation and the newspapers of the times wrote many stories about him which helped to grow his public persona.
Lester Gillis aka George “Baby Face” Nelson; you know you’ve gotta be bad when you change your whole name to avoid being discovered. Known as someone who had little regard for human life, he left behind him nothing but misery and loss. Even some of the biggest names in crime wouldn’t work with him because of his violent ways. Oh, and he very famously HATED his nickname.
