Susan B. Anthony was having none of history assuming she or anyone else born female were anything other than capable, amazing and worthy. Susan was also not going to be quiet about her opinions. In her life she was a vocal supporter of Temperance, the right of labor, equal pay for equal work, abolition, and suffrage. She believed all people should be allowed to work, encouraged to vote, and that a full society where everyone can contribute will succeed.
Emmeline and her daughter Christabel Pankhurst were the founders and leaders of the militant group the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) , a large part of the Women’s suffrage movement in the United Kingdom. They were joined as well by Emmeline’s other daughters Sylvia and Adela. The Pankhursts didn’t come to play around, using extreme and dangerous tactics to draw attention to their cause. This family came into history to make a point and they fought tooth and nail for their rights.
Helen Keller was an American activist, author, advocate and all-around awesome human. With the help of her family and her lifelong friend and teacher Anne Sullivan (who herself was partially blind from childhood) Helen Keller lived a life of grand adventure and importance in spite of her disabilities and disadvantages. Helen Keller lost her sight and hearing before the age of two but she didn’t let that stand in her way! She traveled the world, changed policies , and helped shape the world into a more understanding and fair place for women and people with disabilities.
Jane Addams was born before the organized suffrage movements but she was a figure that spoke of those ideas long before they became a movement. While she spent her life suffering with health complications she devoted herself to helping others as much as she could. She was a huge advocate of women seizing and creating opportunities for themselves.
